As the school year starts up in much of the state, leadership at western Kentucky school districts hit hard by last year’s tornado outbreak see the future of their districts tied to the future of their local tax bases.

A small Hopkins County town once famous for its restorative waters is still in the early stages of healing after a deadly EF-4 tornado destroyed much of its historic downtown area and a majority of its residences in December.

The city of Dawson Springs held listening sessions last week to allow community members a chance to share what they want for the future of their city following a December tornado that devastated the community.

Tzu Chi USA, a humanitarian organization, is coming to Dawson Springs on Feb. 26 and 27 to give December tornado survivors $1000 in financial aid.
