Kentucky Farmers and Fishermen Get Extended Tax Filing Window

Kentucky farmers and fishermen can file and pay their 2012 state income taxes by April 15 instead of March 1st.  The Kentucky Department of Revenue reports the six-week extension coincides with a similar IRS date change for federal taxes for farmers and fishermen thanks to the recently enacted American Taxpayer Relief Act.

Despite Drought, Ky. Agriculture Revenues Could Set Records

Despite experiencing one of the worse droughts in U.S. history, agriculture economists in Kentucky are projecting record cash receipts for the state’s farmers.

During their annual outlook during the Kentucky Farm Bureau conference, economists from the University of Kentucky say they think Kentucky will break the $5-billion barrier in revenues this year.

Drought Means Less Hay for Cattle Feed

This summer’s drought caused a significant decrease in grass hay production, which many cattle farmers rely on for feed.

The dry weather cut hay production by two-thirds, raising prices $15 to $20 per ton, says Caldwell County Extension Agent Shane Bogle.
