AQS Officials Work to Provide Parking for Quilt Week

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

As more than 30,000 quilt enthusiasts are expected to fill the downtown Paducah area next week, The American Quilter's Society is working to deal with the logistics of the 2016 Quilt Show.

“We have lost a lot of the parking that we had at the convention center. So we are encouraging our quilters to stay at Carson Park and/or the parking lot downtown and then either walk to the show or ride the trolley,” says  Bonnie Browning,  AQS Executive Show Director.

Construction on the Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront Hotel has sparked the parking concerns but mapped parkingand public transport options are available. This year’s exhibit will display more than 600 new quilts with $125 thousand dollars in prizes to be awarded.

“You will never see the same quilt twice, each year a new selection is showcased,” says Browning.

In addition, AQS QuiltWeek will be hosting a series of workshops and a  Merchant Mall comprised of both local and national vendors.

Included in the AQS QuiltWeek celebrated exhibits are “SAQA™: People & Portraits,” the “AQS Authors’ Showcase,” and the “World Painters Challenge.”  Evening events feature the “AQS Awards Presentation,”and “Ricky Tims Takes Center Stage at the Carson Center.”

The Paducah QuiltWeek event will run from April 20th - 23rd at the Paducah McCracken County Convention & Expo Center, 415 Park Avenue, Paducah, KY 42001. Ticket and additional information can be found at quiltweek.com/paducah or by calling 1-270-898-7903. This event is open to the public.
