The American Quilter's Society QuiltWeek is underway in Paducah. The popular, now biannual, event draws thousands of avid quilters and enthusiasts to the city. The National Quilt Museum is also located in Paducah and showcases dozens of works, including QuiltWeek award winners. On Sounds Good, Matt Markgraf speaks with quilter Pat Durbin about her exhibit "A Walk in the Woods" on display in the museum.
Durbin says her techniques involve taking many pieces of commercial fabric and putting them together in a collage or mosaic form to build the picture. A second method is transferring an outline to fabric and then painting it. She also uses a lot of thread in her quilting, which becomes part of the design.
She plans on being in an out of her exhibit at the museum to meet with people interested in learning more about her style. She also has quilts in the show.
Durbin's quilt "Forest Walk" won 3rd place in the 2010 Paducah AQS show.
