Cinema International Presents Film Featuring the Women of the Arab Spring

In Light of the Revolution

The MSU Department of Religious Studies is hosting a spring event series centered on women and religion. Cinema International has partnered with the department to present a female-directed film based on the women in the Arab Spring. Tracy Ross speaks with Dr. Therese St. Paul and Dr. Christine Lindner about the upcoming film.

In Light of the Revolution, directed by Lone Falster and Iben Haahr Andersen, follows several female artists in Cairo as they participate in the Arab Spring of 2011. The Arab Spring was a revolutionary wave of violent and non-violent demonstrations. riots, and protests across North Africa and the Middle East. As their art transitions to radical tools of protest, the film shines light on each individual's artistic growth as well as the toll that their new 'genre' of art had on their overall career after their time in the revolution was over. In Light is being shown in correlation with MSU Department of Religious Studies' spring event series based on women and religion.
Dr. Therese St. Paul, associate professor of French, and Dr. Christine Lindner, professor of history and head of the Religious Studies department, visited WKMS to discuss this courageous and inspiring film, the historical context behind it, and more information on Cinema International. For more information on Cinema International's upcoming events, visit the Murray State calendar or the Cinema International Facebook page.
