In response to the continued spread of COVID-19 through the commonwealth, Benton Mayor Rita Dotson announced Monday cancellation of the annual Tater Day celebration.
Dotson said she ordered cancellation to protect the estimated thirty thousand people who visit Benton for the carnival rides, food vendors, beauty pageant and demolition derby. She said she conferred with the city council before announcing the decision.
“The agreement was unanimous to cancel it for the safety of our citizens,” she explained.
Dotson said she also consulted with the governor’s office, health department and medical professionals.
