Underwriter Spotlight: G's Comics

Listeners assemble!

There's something super-heroic about supporting your public radio home, and G's Comics in Murray is definitely up for the task.

In business for 8 years, G's has been a hot spot for many listeners and WKMS hosts. Program Director Tracy Ross acknowledges that Murray is pretty lucky to still have a local comic shop, where so many other communities don't these days.

Owner Garrick Crump has been a fan of comics since he was a kid. Both of his parents were educators, and comics were one way he was encouraged to read early and often. G's sells a little bit of everything for children and adults, with series names you know from the big or small screens (like The Walking Dead, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Batman), as well as newer critically acclaimed series like Saga.

The key word is variety. As Garrick says he goes beyond just the superhero genre of comics folks first think of - with science fiction, horror, and more. He also deals in board games, toys, collectibles, used books, and graphic novels.

As for why he chose to underwrite with WKMS, Garrick says that a lot of his customers are part of the WKMS community. He also believes local businesses should give back when they can, "I try to give back to the community. Support those who support you."

Comic fans of all ages can visit G's Comics at 605 B South 12th Street, in the Southside Square in Murray or on Facebook. Hours are Monday through Friday 11 to 7 and Saturday 11:30 to 5:30.

Asia Burnett is WKMS Station Manager.
