Ky. State Parks Get $18M Additional Funding for Improvements

Four parks in the far western part of the commonwealth are among Kentucky State Parks getting additional state funding for infrastructure, safety and aesthetic improvements.

Under the budget approved by Governor Matt Bevin an additional $18 million dollars will fund projects in resort parks across the Commonwealth, including several in far western Kentucky.

The project involves painting exteriors, interiors, repairing sidewalks and walkways, exterior repairs to siding and some campground improvements.

Department of Parks Information Officer Gil Lawson says, “The plan is to do work at most of the resort parks and that will include Pennyrile Forest, Lake Barkley, Kenlake and Kentucky Dam Village all in the western portion of the state.”

Lawson says planning work is underway, “Our hope is to get some work going this summer. These projects will be spread out over the next two years: this year and next year. So it won’t happen all at once.”

He says most of the resort parks will get some work and possibly other state parks.

Lawson says he’s glad to have the money from the general assembly and appreciates the support of the legislators and the governor.

There are 49 state parks in Kentucky according to the Kentucky State Parks website.
