Brookport to Receive $1.8M in Recovery Aid

Facebook

The city of Brookport, Illinois and Massac County will receive a little more than $1.8 million in state funding to aid in recovery from last November’s deadly tornadoes.

The aid is part of$11.6 million in state relief to municipalities across Illinois. This money is part of a $45 million multi-agency relief package assembled by Governor Pat Quinn when the state was notified it would receive no federal disaster assistance for local governments.

“Illinois has faced a record number of natural disasters in recent years, but we are committed to helping each and every community get back on its feet,” Governor Quinn said in a statement.

The relief money comes in part from the Illinois Department of Transportation to help repair damaged infrastructure. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency also provided funding to help municipalities pay for previous costs, such as debris removal, emergency protective measures, and overtime payments.
