Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin Traveling State to Pitch Pension Plan

Gage Skidmore, Creative Commons

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is traveling the state to promote a bill that would make significant changes to one of the country's worst funded public pension systems.

Bevin spoke for more than 90 minutes Monday to a group of business leaders in Lexington, Kentucky's second largest city. He is scheduled to speak to similar business groups in London and Owensboro on Tuesday.

This comes after Bevin has appeared on numerous talk radio programs and sat for newspapers interviews in Ashland, Bowling Green and Barbourville.

The plan would freeze benefits for current workers once they reach 27 years of employment and move them into a 401(k)-style system.  Many public employees oppose the plan.

Republican state Rep. Wesley Morgan of Richmond announced he will vote against the bill.
