Judge Exec. Appoints New Members To Calloway County Public Library Board

ROB CANNING/WKMS

The Calloway County Public Library Board can once again hold meetings after Judge Executive Larry Elkins appointed three members Tuesday night.

The board only had two members remaining after Ricky Lamkin, Larry Tucker and Jeff Gentry resigned last month.

The law requires at least three board members be present before it can meet or take action on items like passing a balanced budget.

The Calloway County Fiscal Court approved the appointments of Winfield Rose, Joseph Walker and Mark Kennedy to fill the vacancies.

The resignations and appointments come after the library board agreed to move forward with a proposed $6 million expansion project.

Elkins has been critical of the library and the proposed expansion since discussions began in 2016.

He accused the board of frivolous spending and denounced an expansion that would cost more than $4 million.
