The Owensboro-Daviess County region is home to several hotly-contested state House and Senate races that will be decided Tuesday.
D.J. Johnson was a first-time political candidate two years ago when he defeated five-term Democratic Representative Jim Glenn by 264 votes.
Now Glenn is running to win back the 13th District House seat, which covers most of Owensboro.
Glenn told the Messenger-Inquirer that Owensboro’s continued growth depends on improving job quality, educational opportunities, and infrastructure.
Rep. Johnson says Kentucky’s pension shortfall will continue to impact all budgetary matters.
The first-term Republican also said health care costs will have to be addressed in the next session.
Another closely watched race in that region is the contest to fill the 8th District state Senate seat being left vacant by the retiring Republican Joe Bowen.
Democrat Bob Glenn and Republican Matt Castlen are running for the seat that covers Daviess, Hancock and McLean counties.
