 UPDATE: 5:23 p.m.

A Puryear, Tennessee man is now in custody and faces a murder charge in connection with the death of Murray resident Wallace Key earlier this week.

Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 28-year-old Jonathan William Backer Tuesday night after receiving information from the Murray Police Department. Backer was initially wanted on an evidence tampering charge, but MPD investigators obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday charging him with Key's murder.

Calloway County coroner Ricky Harris says a preliminary autopsy, performed Wednesday morning in Louisville, shows Key died from blunt force trauma to the head.

MPD public affairs officer David Howe says Backer will be extradited to Murray to face his murder charge.

Key's funeral arrangements are currently incomplete at Murray's Imes Funeral Home.
