KYTC Picks Preferred Alt. Route For U.S. 641 in Lyon, Caldwell

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials have selected their preferred route to realign U.S. 641 through Lyon and Caldwell counties following public feedback.

Cabinet officials said in a release the new alternate route will run about nine miles from Eddyville to Fredonia. They said part of that route will run through state-owned land because public feedback didn’t want to impact private homes and farmland.

The route will use land owned by the Kentucky Department of Corrections and an industrial park in Lyon County. The project would expand the corridor to four lanes and cost an estimated $64.5 million dollars. The proposed route could change depending on environmental considerations and land purchased by the state.

Cabinet officials expect the project will increase road traffic from 4,000 vehicles per day to more than 5,000 by 2030.
