Update Wednesday (see below)

A Murray State University cheerleader was arraigned in Calloway Circuit Court on Tuesday for a first-degree rape charge.

25-year-old Dannis Seay of Murray entered a plea of not guilty. An indictment says Seay on or around March 22 in Calloway County engaged in sexual intercourse with a woman incapable of consent because she was physically helpless.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Dennis Foust said the charge is a Class B Felony punishable up to 10 to 20 years in prison. Foust said Seay is out of jail on bond.

According to a Murray State Athletics website profile, Seay is a graduate student cheerleader on the 2018-19 roster. A university spokesperson said he is currently enrolled as a student, but is not on the 2019-20 cheer roster. Murray State Police said the alleged crime occurred off campus.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for September 5.
