A new organization is trying to get more filmmakers and production companies to film their movies in southern Illinois.

WSIL-TV reports the nonprofit Southern Illinois Film Commission wants to highlight the natural beauty of the area while boosting the local economy.

Commission member Jon Musgraves says Illinois offers incentives that are competitive with other states, but most filmmakers tend to go to Chicago. The commission plans to reach out to those filmmakers, as well as to companies like Netflix and Hulu.

They've already been speaking with officials Carbondale, Marion and Williamson County, and will be asking more communities to approve resolutions saying they'll work with the commission.
