Volunteers Ready to "Paint the Town"

Volunteers with Fulton and South Fulton’s “Let’s Paint the Town” program are ready to begin the final summer of work. The community project began in May 2010 to revitalize the appearance of the Twin Cities to attract new businesses. Volunteers have met for two summers to restore buildings and plant landscaping.

Fulton resident Jeff Campbell has been involved with the project since it started. He says although progress revitalizing Fulton has been slow, the program has already seen some success.

“Two of the buildings we’ve renovated have been sold and new businesses have opened. Are they major employers? No, it’s a turnaround, but it’s a start.”

Campbell hopes to restore the exteriors of 10 more buildings by the end of June. The 2012 painting session is set to begin Saturday morning  weather permitting at Evans Drug Company in Downtown Fulton.

Former WKMS Program Director Mark Welch helped paint the town in 2010. See some photos of the event on our Flickr site.
