$700K in Additional Funding Approved for Trigg County Hospital Expansion

The Trigg County Hospital Corporation Board has approved an additional 10 percent funding request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program for its hospital expansion project.

The 10 percent addition, approved at a July 24 meeting, represents $700,000 on top of an existing $7 million investment from the USDA.

“Our project was going to be looking at a shortfall, so the hospital would have to have made up that difference," Trigg County Hospital CEO Alisa Coleman said. "So the USDA recommended applying for additional funding through their program as it was available.”

Coleman said the expansion project is half-complete, with the hospital’s rehab services now housed in a renovated building in Cadiz. Work on the second part of the expansion - a new surgical wing for the hospital - began earlier this year and is expected to be complete in April 2015.

“Once the surgery aspect is complete, we’ll be able to provide general surgery - ambulatory, primarily, surgery - here in Trigg County, as opposed to our community having to leave the community for those same-day type procedures," Coleman said. "So it will add a whole new revenue source for the hospital.”
