Old Eggners Ferry Bridge Set for Demolition

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Update: The old Eggner's Ferry Bridge was demolished today. See the video here.

The old Eggners Ferry Bridge is set for explosive demolition. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says demolition of the four main spans over Kentucky Lake in Aurora is set for 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25.

All traffic across the new bridge will be halted from 6:15 to 6:45. Crews will establish a 1,000 foot clear zone around the blast site.

The demolition crew has finished removing the concrete deck from the 83-year-old bridge. The four middle spans will be demolished by explosives and the two spans on the ends will be removed at a later date.

After the demolition, two cranes will remove fallen steel from the site with the assistance of divers. Tow boat traffic will be halted during this time. The Coast Guard has asked crews to clear the debris from the main channel within 24 hours.

The new bridge is expected to open to four-lane traffic in August.
