How Much Screen Time is Too Much?
The rise of smartphones, tablets and other technology has brought about a sort of digital revolution in how human beings spend their time. This has also caused the question to arise as to how much screen time is too much, particularly for children.
"That question of how much is too much really becomes a core issue that we’re looking at psychologically," Murray State University professor of psychology Dr. Michael Bordieri said during a recent interview on Sounds Good. "I think there’s quite a bit more research to be done here."
Bordieri said the American Academy of Pediatrics has released some guidelines on screen time for children, but a study by Oxford University revealed many parents do not follow those guidelines. This same study also gave rise to something called "the Goldilocks theory," which posited that screen time in moderation could actually be beneficial for both children and adults.
