911 Lines at Kentucky State Police Post 1 Repaired, Functioning Properly

Kentucky State Police, Facebook

Update: The Kentucky State Police Post 1 said in a release Thursday night that all lines have been repaired and are functioning properly.

Original story:

The 911 lines at the Kentucky State Police Post 1 in the far western part of the state are down and could take a week or longer before they are restored.

KSP said in a release the 911 system at the post went down around 9 p.m. Wednesday night. Parts are being ordered for repairs. Attempts to resolve the issue have thus far been unsuccessful.

Post One Public Information Officer Jay Thomas says there is a backup plan. “There’s redundancies built in place, that’s why we have the contingency plans. We have backup 911 centers, so all the 911 calls are being re-routed, they go to Madisonville state police post there and the central dispatch in Paducah.”

KSP encourages the public to still call 911 for emergencies and assure the caller’s location can still be obtained. But, they say if someone calls and doesn’t get an answer by the fourth ring, the normal administrative communication lines are still operational.
