Tennessee City Receives $1.82M Grant For Pedestrian Bridge

City of Clarksville, TN Government via Facebook

The Tennessee Transportation Department has announced a $1.82 million federal grant for Clarksville's construction of a pedestrian bridge to complete a 10-mile hiking and biking trail linking the city's downtown riverfront with the northeastern part of the city.

The bridge over the Red River is the final phase of the Red River Trail. The trail also includes a connection to the Austin Peay State University campus.

Clarksville will be responsible for about $675,000 of the total project.

The project will involve construction of a 290-foot-long, 10-foot-wide bridge that will cross the river at the site of a former railroad bridge. It also includes construction of a 500-foot overhead boardwalk that descends from the bridge to the surface level on the north bank of the river and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
