A northern Tennessee school district wants a resource officer in each of its schools but a commission needs to approve funding for their patrol vehicles.

The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports that a Tennessee Safe Schools Act grant set aside $20 million for Clarksville-Montgomery County schools.

Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson says it will cover the hiring of six officers for the six elementary schools that don't have one, but doesn't cover their patrol cars.

The sheriff asked county commissioners on Tuesday for $158,000 to buy six used cars from the Missouri Highway Patrol. He said they're fully equipped with about 60,000 miles on them.

The commission will vote on the proposal next week.
