"Mary" is a short video artwork about a woman in crisis now showing in a segment o the SELF festival in Venice, Italy through this month, an event coinciding with the famous Venice Biennale. Artists in our region collaborated on the production. On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with Paul Lorenz of STUDIOmars in Paducah's LowerTown Arts District, who composed the musical score; and Glenn Hall, whose professional photographic work ranges around Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky, the video director for this piece.
Paul Lorenz says he made a connection with the director of the festival, Luca Curci, when he was involved with the Rivers Edge Film Festival. Curci would send videos to show in Paducah. "Mary" began from an Lorenz' interest in film and video. He'd been involved in sound and sound compositions and wanted to extend his practice to working with artists in the visual medium. Glenn Hall had a series of photographs called "Domestic Tensions" that he'd been working on and the two collaborated their ideas to create "Mary."
There will be a preview of "Mary" at Maiden Alley Cinema June 12 before the Music @ MAC series with Maiden Radio and Like Water.
