A teenager was arrested on felony charges after saying Tuesday he placed a bomb in Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee.

Martin Police say school resource officer Jason Arant was notified of a false report of a bomb in the school.

An investigation found the 14-year-old male student was overheard telling another student “I placed a bomb in the building.”

The student was located and escorted to the office and questioned about the statement. He admitted tom making the statement in an attempt to make his friend smile because he said his friend was having a bad day.

Police took the threat seriously and searched the school, involving the K-9 unit.

Martin Police Chief Don Teal says False Reports is a felony offense in Tennessee. He says the student was released to his parents.
