The Kentucky State Police has arrested 29-year-old Daniel Kai Alexander of Gilbertsville in connection to the death of a Benton man attacked by dogs.

Brian Butler’s body was found by a motorist on June 29. An autopsy confirmed he died of sharp force trauma from a dog attack. Marshall County Animal Control quarantined three pit bulls located in the area.

Alexander is one of the owners of the dogs.

A police investigation found he tampered with physical evidence at the scene and had knowledge of Butler’s body on McCoy Lane and did not contact authorities.

Alexander was arrested on Wednesday afternoon on a felony arrest warrant. He was taken into police custody and transported to Marshall County Jail.

He was charged with tampering with physical evidence (Class D Felony) and with duty related to finding a dead body (Class B Misdemeanor).

Police say they feel confident the three dogs in quarantine are responsible for the attack, but urge the Gilbertsville community to exercise caution towards any roaming dogs in the area.

This story has been updated to reflect that Alexander was arrested.
