Books we're reading at the station and recommend to you. When we're not on-the-air or at our desks, we like to pick up good books. Most of us here at the station are, in fact, avid readers. In the style of NPR's "What We're Reading" (an excellent weekly guide) we, too, decided to share what we've been reading. Here's a list of books recently read by WKMS staff members, student workers and volunteers.Interested in a book on our list? Follow the Amazon link beneath the picture. Staff Pick from Calloway Co. Library: 'A Redbird Christmas'

Looking for a good book to read, but not sure where to start? Make a visit to your public library! Here's another in our series of recommended reads from the staff at the Calloway County Public Library, A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg, reviewed by Wyneth Herrington and read by Diane Daubert.

A fictional story of a man, Oswald, from Chicago who is given a health diagnosis that changes his life forever. Doctors tell him he has only a few months to live and that he should go south for a better quality of what is left of his life. He finds an old brochure that leads him to a small town in south Alabama along a river. He moves there and meets people who are quite different from him but who prove to be the best friends one can have. Christmas season was once a very sad time for Oswald but becomes one he looks forward to. Also in the story, is Jack, a redbird that lives in the grocery store and has become the talk of the town. I surely didn't know a redbird could be trained! A very enjoyable read.
