The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is funding several infrastructure projects in west Kentucky.
The funding comes as part of the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2020 Work Plan. A release from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Corps will fund three projects in the region:
$63 Million To Complete The Olmsted Locks And Dam
The Olmstead is the largest project funded by the Inland Waterways Trust Fund. The project was authorized in 1988. McConnell said the completion of Olmstead will benefit other priority projects under construction.
Over $61 Million For Kentucky Lock
The funding for the Kentucky Lock project will support the construction of a new lock chamber to handle the increased tonnage of today’s larger barge traffic.
$4 Million For The Paducah Floodwall
The appropriation will pay for upgrades to Paducah’s Floodwall. The floodwall runs through downtown Paducah and protects over $1 Billion in assets from the Ohio River.
