Nearly four months after the former family court judge for Marshall and Calloway Counties retired mid-term, Governor Andy Beshear’s Office appointed Murray attorney Stephanie Perlow to the seat Tuesday.
Perlow said she learned of her appointment Tuesday afternoon and was sworn into office during a private ceremony hours later by Circuit Judge Jamie Jameson. She will serve as Circuit Judge in the Family Court Division for the 42nd Judicial Circuit, serving Marshall and Calloway Counties.
According to the Administrative Office of the Courts, Beshear made the appointment upon the recommendation of a Judicial Nomination Commission. The seat became vacant when former Judge Rob Mattingly retired in Nov. 2019, which created the need for a special election process and set into motion the appointment selection.
But the challenge for the seat isn’t over yet. There are two others vying for the position: Catherine Fuller, a staff attorney with Kentucky Legal Aid in Paducah, and Ryan Yates, a private practice attorney in Marshall County, are also in the race and will face off with Perlow during Kentucky’s primaries on May 19.
