City commissioners in Paris, Tenn., are narrowing down their list of applicants for the position of City Manager. Current City Manager Carl Holder is retiring after 40 years in city management and will serve his last day July 1st, 2015.

The commission directed that Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Kim Foster be trained for the city manager position to ensure the city will have a viable option for manager when Holder leaves. Foster began training this month.

Holder says he is proud of the advancements the city has made during his time and hopes the city will continue to grow and be a nice place to live.

“It’s always good when people have been around for a while to realize that maybe it’s time for them to move on and give the next generation a shot at it,” Holder said.

Holder hopes the next city manager will address the financial stress the city is facing from loss of revenue, diversify the local economy, and renovate the city hall.  Holder says the city has received 22 applications for his post so far. He expects the commission to narrow the list of applicants to between 3 and 5 for interviews in mid-October.
