These Shining Lives chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their roles working at the Radium Dial Company, exploring their true story and its continued resonance. Catherine and her friends are dying, it’s true, but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to kill their spirits – or endanger the lives of those who come after them.

Come From Away is based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

Visit the region’s premier flea market, each Monday morning from March through December, at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds.

MAG Photo group welcomes anyone interested, at any level of photography. The group is supportive in sharing exhibition opportunities, technical information and creative input. Meetings are organized around monthly challenges where participants are invited to drop one or two images, inspired by the challenge, into the album linked on the MAG website event page. Images are shared and discussed during the meetings. Join us for photo challenges!

Epic Hour is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. Tuesdays at Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, 1101 Bethel St.
Epic Hour is one hour of free programming scheduled for school-age youth. Kids are divided into the following groups: Kids Club: Kindergarten-3rd grade; and Be*Tweens and Teens: 4-12th grades.

Storytime is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesdays at Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, 1101 Bethel St. Storytime is in our Children’s Area upstairs. Elevator access is available.

Do you dream of sewing amazing costumes or fixing your favorite jeans? Come learn lifelong sewing skills in this 8-week beginner class.

Sewing is a skill that will serve you well throughout your lifetime. Whether you have grandiose costume and wedding gown dreams, or you simply want to extend the life of your favorite jeans, this introduction to sewing will lay the groundwork for accomplishing both the mundane and the magical. All equipment is provided, but if you have a sewing machine at home and would like to learn on it, you are encouraged to bring it to class.

Upon completion of the course, you will have made your own travel sewing kit, utilizing all of the skills you have learned.

You’ve got projects you want to work on, and we’ve got the space for you to use!
-Tables to spread out as needed
-Climate controlled environment
-Can be quiet or chatty! Bring headphones to catch up on your favorite shows or listen to an audiobook.
-Most importantly — we have snacks. We’ve got all kinds of K-cups and cookies for an evening pick-me-up.
-Plus! Shehan and Mari-Alice are on hand to help as needed. Between the two of them, they have a reasonable amount of experience with crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, sewing, and a teeny tiny little bit of embroidery.
Yarn and Yap meets at 5 p.m. Thursdays at Hopkinsville-Christian Co. Public Library. They meet upstairs. Elevator access is available.

In this documentary, director Julie Wyman explores her family history of “partial dwarfism” and works with a wide-ranging community of Little People to examine and celebrate their culture. The film uses artistic workshops, archival footage, and probing family interviews to portray dwarfism not as a problem to be erased through medical interventions, but as an identity to be celebrated.
