McCracken County Library is now offering the services of a Community Support Advocate;

What A Community Support Advocate does:

• Provide resource navigation: Help connect you with community services such as food assistance, housing programs, healthcare, or transportation resources.
• Assist with forms and applications: Help fill out applications for benefits, job programs, or other social services.
• Connect to mental health supports: Offer information on local counseling, crisis lines, and mental health programs

Benefits: 

• Easy access to free, confidential help in a welcoming setting
• Personalized guidance based on your specific needs
• Help navigating housing, healthcare, and benefit systems
• Support with forms, applications, and documentation
• Empowerment to build confidence and self-advocacy skills
• Ongoing follow-up to ensure continued progress

Prepare a 1950s-style song (it does not have to be from a musical)

Bring your own backing track (about 90 seconds)

Cold reads will be done from the script

Brary Bear's Story Time is provided every Tuesday at 10am & 1pm from Labor Day to Derby Day, with the exception of city school closings.

Story Time is presented as an early learning curriculum by bringing children's books to life through puppets, skits, songs, and merriment with his pals, Dr. Duck and Lady Dragon! Hip Hip Hooray!

Join us for a special conversation between award-winning journalist Shoshana Walter and bestselling and award-winning author Barbara Kingsolver as they chat about Walter’s book Rehab: An American Scandal. In this work, Walter, a Pulitzer finalist, exposes the country’s failed response to the opioid crisis, and the malfeasance, corruption, and snake oil which blight the drug rehabilitation industry.

The SAD to GLAD Campaign is a community-wide mental health awareness initiative designed to raise awareness of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), reduce stigma surrounding seasonal depression, and equip individuals with healthy, practical coping tools. Through a collaborative grant written in partnership with the local health department, funding was successfully secured to support three community events dedicated to mental wellness during the winter months.

Each event will foster open and honest conversations about seasonal depression, provide evidence-informed strategies to support mental well-being, and promote peer and community support. By normalizing conversations around seasonal mental health and offering accessible resources, the SAD to GLAD Campaign strengthens community resilience and encourages individuals to care for themselves—and one another—during challenging seasons.
