McCracken County Library is now offering the services of a Community Support Advocate;

What A Community Support Advocate does:

• Provide resource navigation: Help connect you with community services such as food assistance, housing programs, healthcare, or transportation resources.
• Assist with forms and applications: Help fill out applications for benefits, job programs, or other social services.
• Connect to mental health supports: Offer information on local counseling, crisis lines, and mental health programs

Benefits: 

• Easy access to free, confidential help in a welcoming setting
• Personalized guidance based on your specific needs
• Help navigating housing, healthcare, and benefit systems
• Support with forms, applications, and documentation
• Empowerment to build confidence and self-advocacy skills
• Ongoing follow-up to ensure continued progress

While walk-ins are welcomed, scheduling an appointment will ensure your time slot!

You’ve got projects you want to work on, and we’ve got the space for you to use!
-Tables to spread out as needed
-Climate controlled environment
-Can be quiet or chatty! Bring headphones to catch up on your favorite shows or listen to an audiobook.
-Most importantly — we have snacks. We’ve got all kinds of K-cups and cookies for an evening pick-me-up.
-Plus! Shehan and Mari-Alice are on hand to help as needed. Between the two of them, they have a reasonable amount of experience with crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, sewing, and a teeny tiny little bit of embroidery.
Yarn and Yap meets at 5 p.m. Thursdays at Hopkinsville-Christian Co. Public Library. They meet upstairs. Elevator access is available.

The Author Spotlight is an excellent opportunity to meet regional authors in a casual atmosphere. Authors will be available to chat with you or purchase & sign their works

Mark Bryant 

Author of White Coat, Dark Secrets a tense legal thriller that follows Clark Preston, a lawyer who becomes embroiled in a complex and chilling case after discovering a series of dark secrets hidden within the medical profession. The story centers around a respected pathologist working at a prestigious hospital, whose professional reputation grants him credibility, making it nearly impossible for his sinister activities to be uncovered.

 Mark Bryant is a Paducah native whose career has been built on courtroom experience and real cases that have impacted families across our region. He served 16 years as Commonwealth’s Attorney for McCracken County and later founded Bryant Law Center, representing clients in Western Kentucky and across the country. His debut novel, White Coat, Dark Secrets, is a legal thriller inspired by the kinds of cases he has seen throughout his career. He writes at the intersection of law and human experience, where justice and storytelling meet.

Bill Jones

Local author and former banker Bill Jones brings local history to life in his new book, Seven Visions, One Legacy. Drawing from his own years as President and CEO of Citizens Bank & Trust Company, Jones traces the lives and leadership of the seven men who guided the bank across more than a century of service to the community. What began as the discovery of six forgotten oil portraits in a basement soon became a heartfelt journey to reconnect each former president’s story with descendants and present-day readers. The result is a richly personal look at leadership, family legacy, and the role one institution played in shaping generations throughout Paducah and Western Kentucky.

Bill Jones spent more than forty years in banking and business leadership, including serving as President and CEO of Citizens Bank & Trust Company, where he became part of the very story he now tells. His career later included senior executive leadership with U.S. Bank, but his roots have always remained deeply tied to Paducah and Western Kentucky. A longtime civic and community leader, Jones has served on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards throughout Kentucky. Seven Visions, One Legacy, his first published book, combines his love of local history, leadership, and preserving the stories that might otherwise be forgotten.

The Supper Club: Greek Cuisine

The Supper Club’s next meeting will be Thursday, August 13 and will meet at the Pennyroyal Area Museum at 6pm.This month’s program welcomes Charlotte Kollias Smith who will be cooking special recipes of Greek heritage. Smith is a first generation German and second generation Greek loves all things to do with cooking and cocktails.

Her love of party and menu planning stems from her German mom, who was an amazing cook and made every meal a special occasion! Charlotte especially enjoys cooking foods from Greece~ particularly from the Kalamata region, from where her paternal grandparents (and the delicious olives) come. You can find Charlotte setting cheese on fire and toasting with Ouzo every January 3rd in memory of her dad. Kaly Orexi! Good appetite!

She will demonstrate traditional Greek dishes, and guests will have the opportunity to taste and experience the cuisine, as well as take home a recipe and any unique ingredients required to cook the dish at home.

The cost to attend this delicious program will be $10.00 per person. Dates for upcoming
Supper Club gatherings will be October 8 and December 10, 2026. All programs will be held at the Pennyroyal Area Museum at 6pm.

Join us for Gardening Days at the Homeplace. Just like in the olden days, it takes a community to make our heirloom gardens productive and delicious. While you volunteer, you will get the chance to learn all about heirloom crops, old fashioned gardening techniques, and how the harvests were baked and canned.

Although taking care of an old fashioned heirloom garden is lots of fun, it can also be hard work! Volunteers need to be comfortable with walking on uneven ground, working in outdoor conditions, and having limited access to cell phone service. Don't forget to pack a water, some sunscreen, and a snack.

Get ready to get a little wild in the library! Preschool-age kiddos are invited to play with all kinds of toys and make new friends during Play and Grow every Friday at Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, 1101 Bethel St.
Play and Grow begins at 10 a.m. and we will start wrapping things up at about 11 a.m.

Are you feeling passionate about a book you despised? What about a book you loved? What about a controversial genre, or author? The movie was better than the book? Do you miss making powerpoints? Do you want to argue? Do you want to argue AND have junk food? Come to BOOK RANT! Powerpoints, poster boards, and passionate speeches are ENCOURAGED. Present your case, let the arguments commence, bring your laptop, your phone, a flash drive, or a file to send if you’re making a presentation, so that we can put it on the big screen! If you want to bring poster boards, do that instead! We will have junk food to fuel our cases, and you might leave with a new frenemy!

John “Jack” Worthing, a carefree young gentleman, is the inventor of a fictitious brother, “Earnest,” whose wicked ways afford Jack an excuse to leave his country home from time to time and journey to London, where he stays with his close friend and confidant, Algernon Moncrief. Algernon has a cousin, Gwendolen Fairfax, with whom Jack is in love. During his London sojourns, Jack, under the name Earnest, has won Gwendolen’s love, for she strongly desires to marry someone with the confidence-inspiring name of Earnest. But when he asks for Gwendolen’s hand from her mother, the formidable Lady Bracknell, Jack finds he must reveal he is a foundling who was left in a handbag at Victoria Station. This is very disturbing to Lady Bracknell, who insists that he produce at least one parent before she consents to the marriage.

Returning to the country home where he lives with his ward Cecily Cardew and her governess Miss Prism, Jack finds that Algernon has also arrived under the identity of the nonexistent brother Earnest. Algernon falls madly in love with the beautiful Cecily, who has long been enamored of the mysterious, fascinating brother Earnest.

With the arrival of Lady Bracknell and Gwendolen, chaos erupts and questions (and answers) emerge about Jack’s birth and family. How this classic comedy sorts itself out is sure to delight!

The Downtown Farmers Market is the largest farmers market in the region, providing a location for farmers, crafter and artisan bakers to promote their products directly to the consumers at a reasonable price, save family farms and stimulate the local economy. During peak season (June-July) more than 60 vendors are set up down 5th & Maple Streets at this premiere Kentucky Proud certified market.

If you are in town on Saturday mornings (May-October), be sure to visit the court square to shop, socialize or walk through.
